Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Fujii Kazuhiro received a delegation of 20 trainees participating in the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development during a courtesy visit on November 5.
Addressing the cohort of Primary Course attendees representing multiple international regions, Vice-Minister Fujii acknowledged their dedication to peacebuilding efforts amidst rising global complexities. He urged the delegates to leverage their collective training insights to formulate comprehensive approaches to modern international crises and support long-term stability.
In turn, representatives from the delegation expressed their commitment to the initiative and outlined their goals for the upcoming training modules. Vice-Minister Fujii concluded the meeting by voicing his expectation that the participants would contribute meaningfully to global security efforts in their future roles.
The current edition of the training initiative began with an online phase on October 4, followed by domestic instruction starting November 2. The cohort is scheduled to relocate to Hiroshima on November 8 to continue specialized coursework through November 27.
This year’s international cohort includes 10 non-Japanese participants originating from Angola, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Haiti, Lao PDR, Libya, Palau, Palestine, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine. Commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the human resource development initiative has operated in its current format since FY2015, succeeding a previous Asia-focused pilot program established in FY2007. Hiroshima University administers the academic curriculum, while overseas deployment logistics are managed by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme.
