Healthcare Boost for Tripura: Chief Minister Lays Foundation for Gomati & Tripura Sundari Hospital Expansions

Access to better healthcare is the right of every citizen, and the present state
government is committed to delivering it. Giving priority to expanding health
infrastructure, the government is building modern facilities across primary health
centres, sub-divisional hospitals, district hospitals and referral hospitals. Chief Minister
Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said this today at a programme held on the premises of Tripura
Sundari Sub-Divisional Hospital in Udaipur, where he laid the foundation stones for the
expansion of Gomati District Hospital, the expansion of Tripura Sundari Sub-Divisional
Hospital, and a Public Health Unit. The estimated cost of the three projects is ₹189
crore. Before the foundation stone ceremony, the Chief Minister and Finance Minister
Pranajit Singha Roy took part in the ground-breaking (bhumi pujan) ceremony for the
sub-divisional hospital’s expansion.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the state government is carrying out
development projects across the state, with special emphasis on health infrastructure.
In the last financial year, development works worth ₹1,500 crore were inaugurated or
had their foundation stones laid. In the current financial year, works worth about ₹1,300
crore have been inaugurated or launched so far. Projects worth around ₹260 crore were
inaugurated or launched before and after this year’s Durga Puja. He said Udaipur is a
city of great religious, cultural and historical significance. The state government is
developing satellite townships in Agartala, Dharmanagar and Udaipur. He noted that the
Tripureshwari Temple was beautified under the PRASAD scheme, and that Prime
Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the project last year. Since then, more tourists and
visitors from across the country have been coming here.

A replica of the 51 Shakti Peethas is being built in Udaipur, and an Ayurvedic college
has been started at Tepania in Udaipur. Work on beautifying the city is also under way.

The Chief Minister said that through people-centred projects, better civic services and
expanded tourism, Udaipur will become the most beautiful city in the state after Agartala
in the near future. On costs, he said the expansion of Tripura Sundari Sub-Divisional
Hospital will cost ₹46.40 crore, the expansion of Gomati District Hospital ₹142 crore,
and the Public Health Unit ₹60 lakh.
On the expansion of the state’s health infrastructure, the Chief Minister said seats for
MBBS, BDS and nursing courses have been increased, and bed capacity in various
district hospitals and at AGMC has risen considerably. AGMC currently ranks 131st
among government medical colleges nationwide. He said AGMC and GBP Hospital
must find a place among the country’s ten best hospitals, and work is proceeding
towards that goal. Referrals of patients to hospitals outside the state have already fallen
by about 80 percent. Work has also begun on a modern eye hospital next to ILS
Hospital in Agartala, to provide advanced eye care. In his speech, he highlighted the
free treatment and diagnostic services under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
and the Chief Minister’s Niramay Arogya Yojana. He said these efforts reflect the state
government’s humane outlook, and that the government continues to work with
transparency and sincerity, keeping the rights of ordinary people at the centre.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy also spoke at the programme. He said patients
will receive better quality medical care as a result of this initiative, and that the present
government is genuinely committed to improving services at Tripura Sundari SubDivisional Hospital. He added that it is due to the government’s efforts that the state’s
health infrastructure has improved, and people are now benefiting from better medical
services.

Among those present were Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Deb Roy,
Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Sital Chandra Majumder, Health Department
Secretary Kiran Gitte, and District Magistrate Rinku Lakher, among others.
