New Delhi, September 10, 2026: India fast bowler Yash Thakur has been named as the replacement for Harshit Rana in India’s squads for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced.
The decision was taken after Rana suffered an injury during his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). According to the BCCI, the fast bowler was making good progress in his recovery but sustained a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on September 7. He has subsequently been ruled out of the upcoming assignments.
Yash Thakur, a 27-year-old fast bowler from Vidarbha, has recently made his India T20I debut during the team’s tour of Zimbabwe in July. He featured in two matches and claimed four wickets.
Thakur also has considerable domestic T20 experience, having played 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches and taken 81 wickets at an economy rate of 7.04.
