19 October, Agartala: Tripura is immersed in Durga Puja celebrations on Maha Ashtami, with devotees gathering at temples and puja pandals across the state since morning. Chanting, traditional drumbeats and flower offerings have created a festive and spiritual atmosphere.
At the Dhalashwar Ramakrishna Mission in Agartala today, Kumari Puja was performed as part of the Maha Ashtami rituals. The ceremony involves worshipping a young girl as a manifestation of the Divine Mother, symbolising the power and sanctity of womanhood. Swami Vivekananda introduced the special observance of Kumari Puja at Belur Math during Durga Puja in 1901.
