Strong Families, Stronger Society Built on Human Values: Municipal Mayor

Alongside enforcing various laws to protect the rights of senior citizens and delivering the
benefits of government schemes to them, it is extremely important to strengthen family
values and social awareness among their children and family members. Agartala
Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said this today after inaugurating
the state-level celebration of International Day of Older Persons 2026 at Dr. Shyama
Prasad Mukherjee Town Hall in Agartala.
Inaugurating the programme organised by the Social Welfare and Social Education
Department, the Mayor said that, even amid busy schedules, family members must fulfil
their humane responsibility toward senior citizens. Becoming established in one’s
professional life is not enough; one must also fulfil one’s duties to family and society. A
beautiful family and society are built on the human values of every individual. In such a
family and society, senior citizens can live healthy, safe, and dignified lives.

Protection of Child Rights. Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura district;
Dwipannita Ganguly, Under Secretary of the Law Department; and Tapan Kumar Das,
Special Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, spoke on the
various government benefits, schemes, and rights of senior citizens. The welcome
address was delivered by L. Ranchal, Director of the Social Welfare and Social Education
Department.
