BRICS Summit Drives Delhi Luxury Hotel Rates Above ₹2 Lakh as Rooms Run Short

New Delhi: Delhi’s luxury hotel market is witnessing a sharp rise in demand ahead of the BRICS Summit, with several high-end properties reporting limited or no room availability and some nightly tariffs crossing the ₹2 lakh mark.

The 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, bringing senior leaders, government officials, business representatives, international media and other delegates to the national capital.

According to recent media reports citing industry and booking data, room availability at several prominent luxury hotels has tightened significantly around the summit dates. Some properties are showing no availability for portions of the summit period, while rates at others have risen sharply.

The ITC Maurya, for instance, has reportedly been quoting starting rates of more than ₹2.3 lakh per night for certain stays between September 10 and 13. Other major properties, including the Taj Mahal, The Oberoi New Delhi, Taj Palace and The Leela Palace, have also reported restricted availability around the event dates, according to reports.

Hotel tariffs remain dynamic and can change depending on bookings, cancellations, room category and demand.

Summit boosts hospitality demand

The surge reflects the concentrated demand created by the international gathering. Hotel rooms are being sought not only by official delegations but also by business travellers, journalists and other visitors associated with the summit.

Industry executives have also pointed to a broader shortage of branded hotel rooms in India. Hotel Association of India President K B Kachru said the BRICS Summit was putting significant focus on available room inventory and highlighted the need for India’s hospitality infrastructure to expand in line with its ambitions as a major business and tourism destination.

Travel-industry data cited in recent reports also indicates a significant increase in searches for five-star accommodation in Delhi, while rates at some properties have risen substantially compared with the previous week.

Demand extends beyond summit dates

The effect of the summit is not necessarily limited to September 12 and 13. Hotel operators have indicated that some visitors may extend their stays before or after the main event, keeping demand elevated across a wider period.

The development underscores the pressure that major international events can place on Delhi’s premium accommodation market. It also highlights the growing importance of expanding hotel capacity as India hosts more large-scale diplomatic, business and international gatherings.

With the BRICS Summit approaching, room availability and prices are likely to remain fluid as hotels adjust to last-minute bookings and cancellations.
